Summary
bSafe (“Never Walk Alone”) is a personal-safety app from the Norwegian company Bipper, founded by entrepreneur Silje Vallestad and launched in 2011. It is built around a self-chosen network of trusted contacts called “Guardians.” When a user triggers the SOS alarm — by button, or hands-free by voice activation — the phone sounds a loud siren, begins recording audio and video, and alerts the user’s Guardians with a live, real-time stream and the user’s location, so Guardians can see and hear what is happening as it unfolds and track the user on a map.
Alongside the SOS alarm, bSafe offers Follow Me, which lets a user ask Guardians to watch their journey live by GPS until they arrive, with an automatic “made it safely” notification on arrival. A fake call feature stages a fake incoming call so a user can excuse themselves from an uncomfortable situation, and a timer can auto-trigger an alert if the user does not check in. bSafe markets itself across 100+ countries as a tool for situations from solo travel and night-time commutes to interpersonal threats.
